Recommendation Platform

Client overview

The client is a consumer technology company building a social discovery and recommendation platform hoping to replace anonymous review sites with trusted advice from a person’s real network. Founded by an entrepreneur who experienced firsthand how platforms like TripAdvisor, Yelp, and Google Reviews had been eroded by fake reviews, paid rankings, and incentivized posts, the client set out to create a place people go when a decision actually matters. They came to DevCom with a clear product vision and needed an engineering partner to turn that concept into a live, cross-platform application.

Business Challenges

The client needed to bring a brand-new product to market quickly across web and mobile while keeping the flexibility to evolve the concept. They were building in a category where trust is the core value proposition, so the user experience had to feel polished and reliable from day one.

  • Building from Scratch: There was no existing product — DevCom took the Client’s design and concept to deliver a fully functional application.
  • AI-Designed Prototypes to Production: The client’s product concept and UI were quickly prototyped in Lovable using AI-driven generation of requirements and designs. DevCom needed a repeatable workflow to convert these fast-moving prototypes into stable, production-ready features without losing design fidelity.
  • Cross-Platform Reach: The product needed to run on Web, iOS, and Android from a single codebase, avoiding the cost and delay of maintaining separate builds per platform.
  • Admin and Moderation Layer: A trust-based platform depends on active moderation and user management, which requires a dedicated administrative application alongside the consumer app.
  • Speed to Market: As an early-stage product preparing for its founding user base, the client needed a working application delivered fast, followed by rapid iteration on real feedback.

Solution

DevCom took full ownership of the development lifecycle, working as one team with the client’s product vision:

Modern Cross-Platform Stack

We built the application on a modern 2026 stack: a single React Native and Expo codebase for Web, iOS, and Android, backed by Supabase and PostgreSQL, with the Google Maps Platform powering location features. This delivered all three platforms simultaneously and dramatically reduced duplicated development effort across platforms.

AI-Accelerated Prototyping to Production

The client builds interactive UI prototypes in Lovable, using AI to generate and iterate on requirements and designs at speed. DevCom established a workflow to rapidly convert these Lovable prototypes into production-ready application features, keeping the path from concept to shippable code exceptionally fast.

Rapid Core Delivery

Starting with a team of two front-end developers and one back-end developer, we delivered the complete mobile-first application in three weeks before moving into a structured change-request phase for refinements.

Feature Development

We implemented the platform’s core experiences: trusted “circles” for sharing recommendations with chosen audiences (colleagues, family, inner network), private collections users build for themselves (e.g. curated city guides), and an interactive map that lets users browse and pin recommended places by real-world location.

Custom Admin Application

Alongside the consumer app, we delivered a separate administrative application built specifically for admins to manage users, moderate content, and maintain the integrity a trust-based platform depends on.

Iterative Refinement & QA

Across the change-request phase, we adjusted features, UI, colors, and categories based on client feedback, with dedicated QA testing each iteration before the platform went live in production.

Value Delivered

icon Speed from AI Prototype to Production

  • Our Lovable-to-production workflow let the client move from AI-generated prototypes to working, shippable features in a fraction of the usual time, delivering the complete mobile-first application in roughly three weeks.

icon Modern, Maintainable Stack

  • Building on React Native, Expo, Supabase, and PostgreSQL gave the client a current, cohesive technology foundation that is fast to extend and simple to maintain.

icon Single-Codebase Efficiency

  • By building on Expo, we enabled full Web, iOS, and Android coverage from one codebase, keeping development lean and future maintenance simpler.

icon A Flexible Foundation

  • The architecture absorbed a major mid-project scope expansion and continues to support ongoing feature development as the product evolves.

icon Polished, Trust-First Experience

  • Through iterative design refinement and thorough QA, we delivered the reliable, high-quality experience a trust-based platform depends on.
